LET’S KEEP EACH OTHER SAFE COVID-19 SAFETY AT THE CASTLE As restrictions and best practice safety guidelines continue to evolve in Ireland and worldwide, here at the Castle Hotel Macroom we have a comprehensive ‘live’ COVID-19 Safety Response Plan that is readily changeable at short notice. The safety of our guests is absolutely paramount to the Buckley family and all of our committed staff. For the benefit of our much-valued customers from both near and far, we have summarised key elements of our enhanced safety protocols, some that you will see and some that you will not.
GETTING TO US Whether you are traveling to us over the county bounds in County Kerry or from over the Atlantic, we wish you safe travel and look forward to greeting you with a hearty Irish welcome. Our reservations department will contact you in advance of your stay to brief you on the most up-todate arrivals protocol. We encourage our guests to use our private car park where possible. If traveling to us via public transport, we encourage you to please wear face coverings in line with advice from the Irish health authorities. Our primary entrance from the Main Street will be designated as an entrance for residents only and an exit for other hotel patrons. Please observe the one-way system when entering the hotel. All public entrances will have clear safety information signage and sanitation stations for your use.
WHEN YOU ARRIVE One-way systems and designated queuing areas will be in place throughout our hotel and we would be obliged if you would adhere to any safety signage and instructions from our staff. At check-in you may see some familiar, smiling faces behind a safety screen. These transparent screens have been installed at various points throughout the hotel. Check-in in will be ‘contactless’ and ‘express’ and once you confirm some brief personal details you will receive your freshly sanitised key and directions to your room. If guests wish to dine in-house they will be required to make a reservation at check-in or subsequently by contacting main reception. Any guests showing symptoms of COVID-19 and running a temperature of more than 37.5C will be discretely directed to our designated quarantine area while a transfer to our nearest medical facility is arranged.
SOME SMALL CHANGES YOU WILL NOTICE DURING YOUR STAY Good hand hygiene for guests and staff members is mandatory and hand sanitation stations have been installed throughout the hotel for your use. It is hotel policy that face coverings are not mandatory for staff, however staff members may chose to wear face coverings if they wish. Disposable face coverings are available to guests on request. Discreet signage reminding us all of our obligations to control the spread of COVID-19 will be placed throughout the hotel. Contactless payment and emailed invoices will be encouraged. Elevator signage will advise that only two guests may travel per elevator. Furniture has been rearranged to facilitate social distancing.
WHEN DINING WITH US All tables will be adequately spaced apart and the number of diners will be reduced across all dining areas, in line with safety protocols. All tables will be sanitised after each individual sitting. Single-use disposable paper menus will be provided until further notice. Sterile cutlery shall be presented to you in a sealed pouch at your dining table. All dining areas shall have table service only until further notice. Buffet style breakfast has been discontinued until further notice. All condiments have been removed from dining tables and can be served to you by your waiting team on request
IN YOUR ROOM For your safety, the hotel has decided to remove all non-essential amenities from your bedroom. These amenities are available at any time on request from reception. All essential amenities shall have been safely prepared and sanitised specifically for your room. Your room shall be cleaned and sanitised daily to the highest standards set by the Irish health authorities. Our team of skilled housekeepers and cleaners shall wear single-use PPE when entering your room or cleaning public areas, which will be safely disposed in line with Irish health authority guidelines. In-room dining will be conducted with minimal contact or you can opt to have your order left outside your door.
THE STUFF YOU WON’T SEE - BEHIND THE SCENES Prominent safety signage and hand sanitation stations are located throughout the service areas and hotel back of house. Additional hand wash facilities have been installed throughout the back of house. A designated COVID-19 coordinator has been appointed in each hotel department. These coordinators are responsible for the implementation of our COVID-19 safety response plan. Every member of staff across all hotel departments shall have received site-specific COVID-19 training before recommencing work. Temperatures of all staff members shall be taken before commencing work. Any staff member showing symptoms of COVID-19 shall be directed to a designated quarantine area and onto our nearest medical centre. Staggered shifts, reduced department teams and new work-flows have been implemented to adhere to social distancing requirements throughout the hotel. All public areas are cleaned and sanitised in line with Government and WHO guidelines. Our team of skilled housekeepers and cleaners shall continue to meet and exceed all Irish health authority and WHO guidelines for cleaning and sanitising guest rooms and public areas. All ‘Touch Points’ shall be thoroughly disinfected regularly during your stay. A strict regime exists for systematic changeover of cloths and cleaning equipment between rooms to avoid cross contamination. Bedroom linen will be handled with extreme care, bagged, sealed and removed for laundering. All linen is laundered at a minimum of 70C. Housekeeping shall open windows when servicing a room to ensure adequate ventilation. Our audited food safety system shall continue to ensure the strictest good hygiene practice across all areas of food preparation for our hotel. The hotel’s schedule of micro-testing of food samples, surface areas, utensils and water shall continue to ensure the highest hygiene standards. Our kitchen layout has been modified to allow for isolated workstations and allow for social distancing. All cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils shall be machine washed at temperatures of no less than 82C. A strict protocol and delivery schedule is in place for the safe receipt of all goods from our approved local suppliers to allow for safe distancing during delivery times. Our staff dining facility has been modified to allow for social distancing.
