Original Irish Hotels Charity Challenge

Original Irish Hotels Charity Challenge

This autumn, Original Irish Hotels is partnering with The Irish Cancer Society to complete a Charity Challenge. With over 50 luxurious manor houses, stately castles and boutique hotels throughout Ireland, and 28 hotels found in the Wild Atlantic Way region, Original Irish Hotels is the leading collection of hotels along this famous coastal route.

2024 marks the 10 year anniversary of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. Stretching over 2,600km, it is one of the longest coastal routes in the world. The hotel owners, managers and chefs, along with regular guests and loyal suppliers are coming together to cycle the route to celebrate its impact on local communities over the past 10 years.

The Wild Atlantic Way is celebrated for its sprawling beaches, rugged coastline, and mesmerizing scenery. A tour of the Wild Atlantic Way is nothing short of magical – especially at an Original Irish Hotel along the route!

Original Irish Hotels will support with The Irish Cancer Society as their chosen charity for the challenge. These hotels are at the heart of their communities and The Irish Cancer Society provides invaluable services to their communities, including support for patients, funding cancer research projects and providing care to many all around Ireland.

Stephen Belton, Chairperson at Original Irish Hotels commented: ‘When thinking about creating the challenge, we wanted to ensure whatever we did, not only brought our Original Irish Hotels friends and family together but also made a difference to our local communities. The Irish Cancer Society was the right charity to partner with as everyone in our community and throughout Ireland has been touched by cancer in some way.’

Original Irish Hotels’ aim is to complete the charity cycle along the Wild Atlantic Way and raise funds for The Irish Cancer Society, while visiting a variety of hotels and their communities along the way. The cycle will take place from September 30th where multiple hotel team members will work together to complete the route. Original Irish Hotels work together to offer diverse and memorable experiences across the collection. These hotels are at the heart of their local communities and have a strong level of community engagement through sourcing local produce, supporting local communities and connecting with locals.

Original Irish Hotels want to thank some key contributors who have generously donated to the charity but have also contributed to the running of this campaign. These include: Ona Water, MasterTherm Heat Pumps, Digren Energy Management and GDC Interiors. Notable contributors are ePower and Eno Wines.

The campaign was recently launched by Gráinne Seoige, together with a number of hoteliers at Lough Inagh Lodge Hotel, Connemara.

Gráinne Seoige says ‘I am delighted to support this great cycle organised by Original Irish Hotels along the Wild Atlantic Way with the important aim of raising funds for the Irish Cancer Society. As a proud Galway woman, I want to wish a happy birthday to the Wild Atlantic Way. I also want to commend the hoteliers and their teams for this initiative, I know how important these individual hotels are to their local communities, and they deserve support to reach their fundraising goal. To all participants, let me say, go n-éirí an t-ádh leat!’

Miriam Kennedy, head of the Wild Atlantic Way for Fáilte Ireland says ‘I want to thank everyone from the Original Irish Hotels group, as well as Grainne Seoige, for their support in promoting the Wild Atlantic Way on its 10th Anniversary. I wish everyone a fantastic cycle along the scenic route, and I applaud their efforts to raise funds for The Irish Cancer Society.’
